Proton Magnetometers

Advanced Magnetometry with Integrated GPS Technology

Proton Magnetometers

Magnetics are an increasingly key investigative method for a wide range of applications, from Exploration to Archaeological and Engineering studies. Our advanced magnetometers, developed by GEM Systems, provide the high level of sensitivity and resolution geoscientists rely on for accurate data. For example, the Overhauser Performanceoffers a sensitivity of and a resolution of , while the Potassium Performance boasts an even higher sensitivity of .

The integration of Global Positioning System (GPS) with our magnetometers makes magnetic data easy to plot and easy to use. This integrated system provides accurate survey positioning and real time navigation. In the past, positioning was a time-consuming manual process, but today, utilizing Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS)—which includes multiple satellite networks such as Glonass, Galileo, and BeiDou—allows for greater global coverage and improved accuracy.

Achieving Sub-Metre and Centimetre Accuracy

With an integrated GEM/GPS system, users benefit from access to positioning for global applications. Users operating in Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) regions (which comprise WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS, and other systems) can typically achieve a positional accuracy of approximately . Even outside of SBAS regions, positioning accuracy is still around when utilizing both GPS and GLONASS satellites.

For surveys requiring the highest precision, our systems can be upgraded with a GPS module to take advantage of NovAtel TerraStar service (via paid subscription) for accuracy down to or , or configured for RTK corrections to achieve centimetre-level accuracy. This real-time positioning and survey “lane” guidance systemenables seamless navigation and high-productivity surveys.
